The moment you step through the doors of the Mendon Country Gift Barn you get the sense that you have entered something much more than a furniture and gift shop. There is a feeling that you are in an old-time New England country store, but in the 21st century.
The store is full of gift ideas - hand-painted furniture, stains and paints, candy, jams, jellies, maple syrup, even specialty foods. There are Boyd's Bears, Vera Bradley handbags, Bennington Pottery, Yankee Candles, Berry Garlands, soaps and lotions, greeting cards, birdbaths, and wind chimes.
This is truly a browsers' paradise.
Jack and Judy Ober opened the Mendon Country Gift Barn in 1973 with a vision: maintain the tradition and warmth of New England country stores that provide customers with quality merchandise at reasonable prices.
Mendon Country Gift Barn started life as, well - a barn, a diary barn to be exact. The structure has been refurbished and expanded over the years to house first a custom furniture shop, then a growing display of gifts.
In 1988 the Barn was doubled in size to make room for an expanded assortment of gifts, furniture, and decorative accessories. At the same time, Jack and Judy welcomed their daughter Jill and her husband Bill Krauss into the business.
As the new "barnkeepers," Bill and Jill are committed to keeping the atmosphere warm and inviting, and the gift selection as eclectic as customers have come to expect.
"Over the years, Jack and Judy have set the highest standards for customer service," says Bill. "From the time our staff greets you upon your arrival, to the time you leave with your purchase, or we deliver furnishings to your home, our goal is to create a friendly, exciting experience."
The Gift Barn carries Lane recliners and motion furniture, the Tom Seely bedroom and dining furniture, and Hallogen upholstery. And Christmas is a special time at the Barn. You can find Byers Choice carolers, Department 56 lighted houses and accessory pieces, trees, lights, and more.
"And everybody loves the train," says Bill.
